Cooking up the Curriculum with Munchkins!
Munchkins schools workshops have been successfully running in Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley Schools over the past 18 months, and we are very pleased to be involved in exciting new projects with Southwark Healthy Schools Team, and London Sustainability Exchange's 'Well London'.
Children's health and particularly child obesity are major issues for our nation at the moment, and one simple and effective way to improve our children's health is to teach them to cook and eat healthy and nutritious food.
We, at Munchkins, have had great success working with London primary schools to raise awareness about Healthy Eating and get children excited about cooking and eating great food! Munchkins was even recommended in 'The Times' (Body & Soul 16.09.06) as a great way of giving children cooking experience in school.
We can support schools in various ways:
Family Learning Workshops:
Munchkins Family Cooking workshops provide an opportunity for parents to get involved with their children's learning in a fun, interactive way and create healthy, tasty recipes with their children. These sessions include health and nutrition advice for parents, suggestions to help the whole family get excited about good food, and ideas to support children's literacy and numeracy skills through cooking!
After School Clubs:
Every school should offer Healthy Eating After School Clubs. We make it simple by providing training for staff, recipes, shopping lists, and all the information schools need to run safe, fun, healthy cookery clubs……even if they don't have access to a kitchen!
Healthy Eating Workshops:
Munchkins healthy eating workshops provide whole classes with the opportunity to experience fun, hands on, healthy cooking and tasting sessions in their own classroom.
Curriculum Workshops:
Munchkins workshops bring the curriculum to life through dynamic, hands on cookery sessions within the classroom. These workshops cover topics such as WW2 Food Rationing; Yeast and Bread-making; Black History Month, Food and Religion; Eat more Fruit and Veg; Sandwich snacks; Making a healthy packed lunch and much more!
