At Munchkins we love cooking! We're
all about getting kids excited about eating fresh, healthy food and
learning to cook ' real ' food using simple recipes and great
ingredients.
The food choices made by young children will affect the way they eat
for the rest of their lives. At Munchkins we believe that getting
children involved in all stages of food preparation encourages them to
taste and enjoy new and healthy foods - as well as providing them with
invaluable life skills!
We offer a range of one-off workshops and longer courses for children
After School Cookery Club - cookery skills and techniques for 11-16 year olds every Monday during termtime.
Saturday Masterchef - weekend classes for keen cooks aged 13-18 who want to develop their kitchen repertoire
Student kitchen SOS - 3 day intensive courses perfect for school leavers and students. Everything you need to be a confident independent cook when you leave home.
Birthday parties - an alternative way to celebrate a special occasion with your friends. Get in touch for more information.
Duke of Edinburgh skills - we can help you meet your D of E skills targets through all of our teenagers workshops
Munchkins After school clubs for 4-11 year olds are perfect for fussy eaters (who are encouraged to try new foods), Keen cooks (who can get hands on and messy in the kitchen!) and Budding chefs (who develop their skills and confidence!).
- Tuesdays (General - 4-11 year olds) 4-5.30pm
- Wednesdays (Beginners 4-7 year olds) 4-5.30pm
- Thursdays (Advanced – 8-11 year olds) 4-5.30pm
Over the term children cover different aspects of healthy eating and cookery techniques through dynamic, hands on sessions. Children work in ability groups, gaining certificates for their progress. At the end of each lesson children will take home what they have made. Parents are invited at the end of term for a certificate ceremony and to taste the results of their children's hard work!

What the parents say...
|
| Thanks again for the great Munchkins
sessions. The girls loved it and were very proud of the food they
made--everybody in our families got a taste
|
Thank you so much....T is getting so much out of your sessions and enjoying them immensely!
I am also pleased at the level the classes are aimed at as she is keen to have more independence in the kitchen.
|
| I know she has really enjoyed the course
and the food has been delicious - it has been a real treat to get home
on a Monday and find dinner is all ready!
|
| R is really enjoying Munchkins. 2 days ago
she wanted to be a chef (yesterday it was a teacher) and actually asked
us last night how we made the turkey burgers we were all eating. It
must be very satisfying to know that you are having a lasting influence
on a child’s life, as, even when she stops coming to Munchkins we’ll
make sure that she carries on cooking as she is now so interested.
|
| Thanks so much for today, as usual the
children really, really enjoyed themselves, particularly J for whom it
was her first time! She has been telling everyone about the blind
tasting and the taste 'buns' on her tongue...
|
| I meant to send you an email after R came
back after his last 2 sessions- just to say- he thoroughly enjoyed the
two days he spent with you and the other staff whom he seems to know
very well now! It is amazing how much more he knows about food in
general … wonderful! They are learning about different types of food in
class too so everything is being reinforced!
|
| The children had a really lovely time this
morning and were so proud of their achievements! The food seemed to
feed us all at lunchtime, including an astonished Granny, as well as
Daddy on return from work!
|
| I think E must have really enjoyed today as he's decided he's going to be a chef when he grows up!
|
Thank you so much! We all thought you were super and the kids had a fabulous time.
Isabella said, I quote "This was my best birthday ever!!!"
My younger daughter can't wait for her birthday to have a cooking party with you!
Thanks again for copying so well today with the lack of electricity!!!
|
| Just wanted to let you know that Elisabeth
and her friends really enjoyed the party. The leftovers didn't go to
waste – some of the parents stayed for dinner and we finished everything
off. Delicious!
|
| Katherines's birthday party was wonderful. Many thanks to you and Sarah!
|
| Just wanted to let you know what a success
the party was yesterday. Sarah and Ruth were wonderful with the kids
and 100% organised, professional and punctual. The girls said it was
their best party ever and I am so grateful to you and your team for
making it so easy for me. Your attention to detail and thoughtfulness
made such a difference so thanks again
|
| Thankyou so much for the party. Luke
really enjoyed it and I have had very positive feedback from his
friends. The canapes you made for us were absolutely delicious - really
enjoyed by all. We managed to eat them all by the end of the day! I
can't believe how smooth running everything was and that all the
children joined in all the time - despite the temptation of the garden.
I can't think of anything you could have done better - it was lovely.
|
We all had such a lovely time at the
party. As you can imagine over the years we've had a lot of different
types of parties for both of the kids and I have never had as much
positive feedback as I did from this party. All the kids joined in and
the games were also really good. It was lovely for the kids to have the
cakes and spoons to take home too. We especially appreciated the way
you and the girls cleaned up afterwards.
All in all it was faultless and we are very happy. I think you may
get some more party bookings off the back of ours. I hope so.
|
| Just a quick note to say thank you so much
for a wonderful party. Oliver really enjoyed it and many of the parents
have phoned today to say how great it was.....
|
| A big thank you to Sarah and Alice for
organising a tremendous event yesterday afternoon. All the children had a
great time and the two girls did a super job keeping them focused -
they also did an amazing job clearing up afterwards.
|
| The party was a great success, Sarah and
Rachel were wonderful and all the children had a fabulous time. It was
the most enjoyable birthday party I have ever given, many thanks to you
all,
|
| Munchkins provided the entertainment for
my little girl's 4th birthday party. They were great! Joy and Sarah from
Munchkins, cooked and decorated cakes with 10 four and five year olds,
keeping them thoroughly entertained for the whole afternoon. Whilst the
cakes were baking, they played games and, despite my stereo breaking
down, Joy had them dancing and singing and making their own music! The
children all loved it - plenty of chocolate smeared laughing faces! They
adored the opportunity to really get hands on
themselves: from breaking eggs and beating up the mixture to the final
fabulous decorations, it was all their own work. So many of the other
mums commented on how much the children had enjoyed themselves,
Munchkins were amazing!
|
My daughter has always thoroughly enjoyed
her courses with Munchkins, and it has been great to see her learning
new skills whilst having such fun!
Joy is always so enthusiastic about Munchkins, it's been wonderful to see this rub off on the children.
|
| The Munchkins team are so full of fun and
enthusiasm. They let the kids get fully involved and encourage them to
really enjoy preparing, cooking and tasting food. My children come home
laden with delicious things they've cooked. My 5 year old daughter made
sushi on her last visit - something she'd never have tried at home, but
thanks to Munchkins she now loves it and she was so proud of what she'd
made. Even her older brother, who is rarely keen to do anything that
doesn't involve sport, really enjoys Munchkins! It's one of the few
activities that appeals across the age groups and to both boys and
girls. Even my youngest daughter, who is very shy and usually hates
being left at any childrens' activity group, loves spending the day
cooking at Munchkins with Joy. Joy is caring and patient, yet full of
fun and life, encouraging the children to explore and do things on their
own - she definitely lives up to her name!
|
| Joy and her team run a fun &
educational activity that both kids and parents love. It's brilliantly
organised, innovative & full of happy faces. Munchkins brings
children life skills: a love of eating food, cooking food, and an
awareness of healthy lifestyles. It gives parents family recipes which
kids love eating and helping create, and yummy food to bring home. My
son loves going and always comes home with great ideas and yummy food.
He now informs ME how to prepare some dishes!
|
| I have 4 children, aged 6 - 9yrs who just
LOVE Munchkins! It is great fun, totally hands on, educational and
encourages fussy eaters to taste a variety of foods without any parental
pressure! The kids learn basic kitchen and cooking skills and it is
amazing how much knowledge has stayed with them. Joy Neal, who runs
Munchkins is very gifted in working with young children, is warm and
friendly and is totally committed to developing the children's skills
and experience with food. All her staff are great too! I would recommend
Munchkins to anyone.
|
| My daughter has attended Munchkins after
school club and holiday activities for about 3 years. She is now 7 &
loves cooking and trying new food. Munchkins has taught her a level of
independence and confidence that she never would have received just
through cooking with me. When Joy went travelling for a few months and
Munchkins did not run she was desperate to get back to it.
|
| When teaching young people Joy has
demonstrated unending patience, kindness and a sense of humour. She can
also be firm when necessary, always ensuring that every person is
actively involved in her class and minimising any potential disruption,
with what seems the greatest of ease. She always strives to make her
classes interesting, fun and practical. When Joy is teaching, she is
not only imparting cooking skills, but also developing general knowledge
and personal skills. Her classes provide positive experiences for a
young person to learn to work independently but also as part of a group.
|
| My daughter developed a real love of
cooking after attending a Munchkins course and now enjoys cooking for us
at home (which is a real treat). She will also now try foods which
previously she would never have eaten. I was also very impressed that he
teachers were fun, friendly and extremely calm and kind with the
children.
